Refunds now offered for cancelled concert

Further to the cancellation of Saturday's concert due to severe weather conditions ...

We originally referred on our website to the terms under which the tickets were sold (exchange but no refunds)

However, we have now changed the policy as follows

  • Full refunds available for tickets on the event we were unable to stage
  • If you would like to honour the charity fundraising aspect of the concert, may we suggest claiming a 50% refund?

(This reflects the direct losses to Sheldon on the cancelled concert - the surplus we would hope to make on a successfully staged one is considerably less). Just so you know - the Art Shed at Sheldon is the project we're raising money for this year.)

  • The original offer of retaining your ticket to exchange for any concert next year still holds  (Do not return them now - keep them safe to exchange after we publish details for 2018 next Easter)
  • If you appreciate this, please do give the theatre a nice shout out on our Facebook page - thank you!

In order to claim refunds, please return your tickets by post and then allow one week before telephoning during office hours for a refund onto your card. There is no time limit for this, but it would be helpful if you could do it before the end of September.

If we were holding tickets at the Box Office for you to collect, please just ring the office after 7th August or email {~92|80|77|73|92|90|77|40|91|80|77|84|76|87|86|22|93|83|22|75|87|85~} and say which option you would like. Any tickets still held at the end of August will be posted to you.

Conversations and information leading our policy change

  • We have read comments from unhappy ticket holders on social media and emails
  • There are no possible dates for Sheldon to reschedule this year. Neither of the bands are able to commit to a rescheduling next year. This means there is very little chance of being able to offer a replacement that fans of Mad Dog Mcrea or Wildwood Kin would be happy with.
  • We have surveyed the practices of other people running outdoor events, (practices vary - some only offer exchange for alternative performances, some offer full refunds, some offer face value refunds but not booking fees)
  • We have taken legal advice and find that this has evolved since we took advice on our current policy with Trading Standards 10 years ago

Future years at the Sheldon Open Air Theatre

We are consulting and thinking carefully about ticket sale terms for future years. As an intimate venue we can't (and don't want to) compete with the big venues which benefit from economies of scale. We want to keep ticket prices affordable for enjoyable nights out. We need to be mindful of Charity Commission guidance on the amount of risk a charity should take when staging fundraising events. Although our previous approach and policy on weather cancellation had served everyone well for the last 10 years, we need to be sure we go forward on the right basis.

A big thank you to everyone who supports and enjoys magical nights out at Sheldon, and to all the team who make them possible!

With love and good wishes from all the Community here at Sheldon.
